Dutch and French pair storm into the Doubles final

The semi-finals of the Tata Open Maharashtra were played on Court 1 and Centre Court. Here’s how things unfolded in the two clashes.

Second seeds, Robin Haase and Matwe Middelkoop faced Roman Jebavy and Jiri Vesely in the first Doubles semis on Court 1. The Dutch pair were off to a fantastic start and stamped their authority over the match. They won the first set 6-2 quite easily. The confidence of the Dutch pair just went up from their first set performance as they gave their opponents no chance to come back in the game. In the end, they thumped Jebavy and Vesely 6-4 to progress in the next round with a straight sets win.

In the other semi-final, Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Gilles Simon stormed into the finals with a straight sets win over India’s Yuki Bhambri and Divij Sharan. The French pair who had won their last two rounds in straight sets, came into this match as favourites and played like one. They were aggressive and in-sync in their every move, with the Indian pair not able to match their class. They won the first set 6-4 and started the second set positively as well. The Indian pair, with the backing of the home crowd took the game till the tiebreaker. But Herbert and Simon held their nerves and won the tiebreaker 7-6(7- 2) to move into the finals smoothly.

So it will be Haase and Middelkoop taking on Herbert and Simon in the Doubles final of Tata Open Maharashtra. Who are you backing to lift the title?
