Win for Arjun and N. Sriram in Doubles, Prajnesh bows out

Day 1 of Tata Open Maharashtra 2019 saw some high quality Tennis in Pune. Two seeded players in Singles, Pablo Andujar and R. Carballes Baena were knocked out in the opening round.

Ernests Gulbis with 14 aces outpowered Pedro Sousa in three fighting sets 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. India's Prajnesh played some brilliant tennis but went down to the 20-year old American M. Mmoh 7-5, 6-3.

Steve Darcis who made a return to tennis after a long gap of over a year scalped an impressive win over R. Carballes Baena of Spain in two straight sets 6-3, 6-4.

There were plenty of Doubles actions as well on Day 1. The only joy for the local fans was in form of N. Sriram Balaji  and A. Kadhe's win over P. Oswald and T. Putz. The final score was 7(7)-6(1), 4-6, 10-8
