Simon defeats Anderson in straight sets to win his 13th Singles Career Title

The high-voltage Singles Final began the proceedings at Mhalunge Balewadi Stadium in front of a full house audience.
Gilles Simon and Kevin Anderson started on the perfect note with both players winning games on their serves. The crowd present was applauding each point as they knew they were witnessing a tight contest. In the seventh game, Simon broke Anderson’s serve to take a slight but important lead of 4-3. Simon held his serve in the next game to make it 5-3 and move one game closer of winning the first set. But Anderson won the next two games to level it at 5-5. The see-saw games continued between the two with the set going into a tie-breaker at the end. It was 3-3 in the tie-breaker but Simon, who was excellent in his serves and defence, won the first set 7-6(7-4).
The close contest continued in the second set as well. But Anderson made a few unforced errors in the sixth game of the set to hand the advantage to Simon. The Frenchman was quick to pounce on the mistakes and took a lead of 4-2. He went on to win the next two games and claimed the Tata Open Maharashtra Singles title by beating Kevin Anderson 7-6(7-4), 6-2 in the end. This was his 13th Singles Career Title and first in India. Congratulations to the Frenchman!
